Description of the work
Description of the work
The depiction of animals in art has ancient origins, even appearing in primitive cave paintings. For religious reasons, various types of animals appear in the works of various ancient civilizations. It was especially in the Middle Ages, within the International Gothic style, that animal depictions became widespread as true portraits, both within works of art and in notebooks of drawings and sketches. The presence of animals as subjects in art remained constant until the contemporary era. In this painting, artist Renzo Capredoni focuses his research on the figure of the horse. A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject throughout the history of art. From the 14th century onward, its presence became obligatory in battle scenes or equestrian monuments, and for painters, depicting it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering has always been a challenge.
In this painting, artist Renzo Capredoni conducts in-depth research into one of his favorite subjects, the horse. The group of animals is rendered with a highly dynamic and sinewy line that perfectly expresses the steeds' strength and energy, while also giving shape to their remarkably sculptural volumes. The sense of irrepressible strength and dynamism is also echoed in the background, which is subjected to a gestural and abstract expressionist treatment in a luminous golden hue.
Renzo Capredoni is a Milanese painter born in 1933. Throughout his career, he has focused primarily on horses and female portraits. His painting style is truly eclectic, open to a wide range of experimentation. Indeed, his works showcase stylistic diversity, ranging from classical figurative to abstract expressionism.
