Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a constant aspiration for painters. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; up to the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. The artist Gene Pompa draws on this latter approach.

Gene Pompa's style is extremely refined and original. He begins with an impressionistic representation of nature, aiming to capture every vibration of color and light, but transcends it by developing a highly experimental technique. First and foremost, his brushstrokes can be considered Pointillist, as each individual chromatic note is detached from the others, leaving the viewer to recompose the image in their own mind. Thus, Gene Pompa's works are veritable kaleidoscopes of brilliant and luminous colors. Even in composition, this artist clearly draws on the geometricism of Seurat and Signac, the leading exponents of French Pointillism. Meanwhile, the immersive and sacred nature that pervades the feeling of nature expressed in his works brings to mind a local Pointillist like Giovanni Segantini. Gene Pompa's other distinctive trait lies in his use of spatula, which, by creating relief on the painted surface, makes the representation even more evocative. The painting goes beyond the space of the work and enters directly into the space of the spectator.

Gene Pompa was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1952. He trained by copying the works of the great masters of the past, until, in the 1990s, he developed his signature spatula technique, which gives his works a three-dimensional feel. In 1998, he opened his studio-gallery, Art'è Gene, in Rome. He has participated in over five hundred exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. Of note, a monograph was published by Giorgio Mondadori Editore in 2013, and a catalog edited by Vittorio Sgarbi in 2014.
