Description of the work
Description of the work
Sandro Chia was born in Florence in 1946. He is an Italian painter and sculptor, a leading figure in the Transavanguardia movement, which emerged in the late 1970s and promoted conceptual and symbolic art. The artist's training began with his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, achieving success with intensely colorful paintings, heroic and mythological figures, and a style that blends classical influences with contemporary expressiveness. His works are exhibited in leading private and public galleries, and he has appeared in major international exhibitions. Known for his poetic and evocative approach, Chia continues to explore the narrative and symbolic power of art, maintaining a strong connection to the Italian pictorial tradition. The work presented here is a compendium of ten color plates outside the text, one dry-printed image, and twelve single-color illustrations within the text, drawn from original drawings by the artist depicting the stories of Genesis. The work includes an introduction, the original translation from the Hebrew, and ten exegetical commentaries by Professor Frédéric Manns. The cover features a copy of the Florentine artist's "The Face of God," a bas-relief (18 x 23 cm) minted, covered in 24K gold, and hand-patinated with special colors. The volume is stitched and bound in calfskin, hand-stained with vegetable dyes, with six ribs along the spine and gold inscriptions created using an ancient manual process.
