Description of the work
Description of the work
The iconography of Giacomo Badini's paintings is always quite complex and, in some cases, certainly has allegorical meanings and can be defined, in some ways, as symbolist precisely because of its allusion to underlying meanings. It is a type of iconography that can be traced back to the artistic language of late nineteenth-century painters such as Moreau, Bocklin, or Puvis des Chavannes, who, despite using a substantially figurative language, created intellectually complex subjects, full of symbolic and allegorical references.
The iconographic complexity of Giacomo Badini's works also reflects a complex formal exploration. The scenes are set in a decontextualized space characterized by compact, essential fields of color. In this enigmatic and suspended context, the scene becomes even more captivating. Formally, the subjects are rendered with a highly elegant graphic line that minimizes detail, further enhancing the iconic and overly meaningful representation.
Giacomo Badini is a contemporary artist born in Guidonia Montecelio, near Rome, in 1954. Badini's works are held in numerous public and private collections, both in Italy and abroad, and his paintings have attracted the interest of many public figures, including a 1996 retrospective by the renowned critic Professor Vittorio Sgarbi. Since 2013, a large-scale work has been permanently exhibited at the Paolo Angelani Library in Monterotondo (Rome). Among his works are the Trinidriadi series, the Ossessioni series, the Eros series, and numerous works inspired by roles, stories, history, and identity.
