Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as an independent subject began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world, as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also became a way of interpreting reality.
The artist Giacomo Delcroix is an excellent representative of a pictorial style with a broad classical scope. The aim of his artistic practice is a completely naturalistic rendering and a faithful and truthful recording of sensory data. He achieves these results in his representation thanks to his extraordinary painting technique, which captures every single detail of the subject. But it's not only this that makes Giacomo Delcroix a great painter: also fundamental is the lightness of his touch, through which he subtly blurs objects, blending them naturally into space. Delcroix's impeccable naturalism, however, does not prevent him from infusing flashes of painterly flair that make the representation more alive and less static.
Giacomo Delcroix was a Florentine painter born in 1894 and died in 1972. There is little biographical information regarding the activity of this painter, who nevertheless remains an extraordinary representative of a broad, classical and academic artistic practice.
