Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.
This work allows us to appreciate the technical prowess of the painter Giacomo Tabellini, which translates into a sweet and serene conception of still life, marked by profound lyricism. The composition is balanced and harmonious, but above all, it is the use of color that plays a fundamental role. This is evident in the way the artist modulates the light, which creates iridescent hues and vivid reflections on the surface of the fruit. Undoubtedly, especially in his still lifes, Giacomo Tabellini demonstrates his extreme attention to formal values. The volumes of the objects thus possess a well-defined plasticity, in a harmonious and almost geometric conception of the composition. However, the atmospheric lyricism of Tabellini's painting slightly erodes the form of these fruits, just enough to imbue them with subtle existential vibrations.
Giacomo Tabellini was a Livorno painter born in 1907 and died in 1989. He primarily painted still lifes and seascapes. He is a worthy representative of the Livorno school of painting, although his style does not display a marked propensity for post-impressionism.
