Description of the work
Description of the work
The iconography of this work certainly has allegorical meanings and can be defined, in some ways, as symbolist precisely because of its allusion to underlying meanings. It is a type of subject that can be traced back to the artistic language of late nineteenth-century painters such as Moreau, Bocklin, or Puvis des Chavannes, who, despite using a substantially figurative language, developed intellectually complex iconographies, full of symbolic and allegorical references.
Formally, the work exhibits all the hallmarks of a perfect illustration inspired by a literary inspiration. The workmanship is exquisitely didactic, with a precise and refined style. The space is rationally perspectived, and the representation is meticulously detailed. Everything is rendered with delicate hatching, allowing the artist to create subtle chiaroscuro.
Giampaolo Dal Prà is an artist born in 1955 in Piove di Sacco. He trained in his father's workshop, focusing primarily on drawing and engraving. He later attended the Carmini Art Institute, Graphic Arts section, in Venice. Dal Prà specializes in aquatint and works for INClub publishing in Florence, Chalcos in Naples, and Toro in Milan.
