Description of the work
Description of the work
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.
In this silkscreen, we can appreciate how Giancarlo Audino's artistic language is open to various forms. On the one hand, it leans toward a figurative foundation, expressed through bold drawing. The language is almost pop, reminiscent of an illustration or a comic strip. This foundation is overlaid with a second layer of language, inspired by the perception of shapes and colors according to the principles of Optical Art.
Giancarlo Audino was a painter originally from Fermo, born in 1929 and who passed away in 2010. He studied at the Art School in Naples and taught for many years at the Montani Industrial Institute. In 1965, he moved to Rome, living for many years in Trastevere and participating in the intense cultural climate there. Especially in the 1970s and 1980s, he associated with important figures such as Attardi, Calabria, and Vespignani.
