Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
As we can see in this work, the process of abstraction implemented by Giancarlo Cozzi is constituted by this sort of assemblage that he develops in the third dimension, in this case with a wooden sculpture. The assemblage forms a large mechanomorphic structure that consequently transports the work into a surreal dimension. The rhythm of the composition, also suggested by the title Acceleration, is frenetic and extremely dynamic. The elongated form itself suggests a path that the viewer must follow, guided by the artist. Thus, the sculpture is configured precisely through a series of sections that constitute the same number of stages in the perceptual game established by Cozzi. Formally, this game is expressed through alternating rhythms of relief, lines, and colors.
As we can see in this complex work, artist Giancarlo Cozzi operates within the realm of abstraction. His strongly experimental nature is such that, even in a single work like this, he subjects the viewer to numerous perceptual stimuli.
