Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
For Giancarlo Nardecchia, painting landscapes means transferring them with photographic precision to a pictorial medium. This painter's technical skill is such that he can reproduce every minute detail, both natural and architectural. Despite this rationality in his descriptions, Nardecchia's painting style, however, is not rigid. Indeed, the drawn structure is complemented by a loose and fluid application of color. His touch, in the details, is impressionistic, ready to embrace luminous vibrations. In this way, Nardecchia manages to ensure both descriptive precision and a fresh execution.
Giancarlo Nardecchia was born in Valmontone in 1931. His artistic career has contributed to the artistic heritage of Val Montone with the restoration of the Cathedral of San Gregorio Magno, the painting of the patron saint, Sant'Antonino, and several fresco cycles. In 1980, he painted the portrait of John Paul II and since then has received various commissions from the Vatican, especially portraits of bishops.
