Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Even in printmaking, Giancarlo Vitali stands out for his landscape painting, in which he seeks characteristic views, imbued with a distinctive lyricism. Hence his penchant for picturesque views and evocative framing. Formally, this translates into a highly animated and dynamic pictorial style that ensures freshness and immediacy of execution. Vitali's touch is remarkably cursive, composed of sudden flashes, effectively capturing the vibrations of light on objects. The entire composition is imbued with a calm realism and a freshness deriving from the artist's technical prowess.
Giancarlo Vitali Bellano 1929 - 2018. He began painting at the age of fifteen, after a stint at the Institute of Graphic Arts in Bergamo. In 1983, Giovanni Testori, after accidentally seeing a reproduction of one of his paintings, visited him. This meeting sparked a relationship of mutual respect and friendship. The following year, Testori wrote an article about him on the third page of the Corriere della Sera and organized what can be considered his first solo exhibition in Milan. From that moment on, he exhibited in numerous public and private venues and published numerous catalogs and portfolios of engravings.
