Description of the work
Description of the work
Animal depictions in art have ancient origins, appearing even in primitive cave paintings. For religious reasons, various types of animals appear in the works of various ancient civilizations. It was especially in the Middle Ages, within the International Gothic style, that animal depictions became widespread as true life portraits, both within works of art and in notebooks of drawings and sketches. The presence of animals as subjects in art remained constant until the contemporary era. Gianluigi Alberio is an artist specialized in animal portraits, a genre in which he has achieved truly excellent technique.
This eagle's head stands out for its remarkable refinement and precision of execution, reaching the highest levels of naturalism. Gianluigi Alberio thus belongs to a clearly hyperrealist school of painting, specializing in animal depictions executed with great attention to detail. This canvas is a perfect example of a truly hyperrealist pictorial quality, not only in its subject matter but also in its form. The painter manages to reproduce an image of perfect and complete objectivity, and the representation is extremely rich in anatomical details. The hyperrealist perfection of the final result depends on exceptional precision in the drawing and the paint application, with a remarkable ability to blend volumes, even concrete ones, in the light. Thus, despite the precise representation, the artist does not lose the distinctive features of an exquisitely naturalistic poetics.
Gianluigi Alberio was born in Rovello Porro (Cosenza) in 1951. Passionate about art from a young age, he graduated from the Como School of Art in 1969. He then enrolled at the Scuola Politecnica di Design (SPD) in Novara. Upon completing his studies in 1971, having graduated in Visual Design, he worked for five years in an advertising agency as an Art Director. In the late 1980s, during a stay in Amsterdam to study Van Gogh's paintings, he discovered tattooing at an industry convention and, after many adventures in sourcing the necessary materials in the US, began tattooing. In 1992, he opened the studio "TATTOO STUDIO AL", where, in addition to tattoos, he performs airbrushing on all types of materials: from helmets to motorcycles, refrigerators and anything else your imagination can dream up. In recent times, the artist has focused his work on the study of animals, achieving widespread public acclaim.
