Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.
Gianni Baranello's style, in his still lifes, seems to tend toward hyperrealism. Indeed, one notices a desire to objectively convey on canvas, with cold lucidity, the sensory data the artist has before his eyes. Baranello possesses a remarkable technique, reminiscent of Flemish painting, in the precision with which he reproduces various materials and the effects of light falling on them. Despite his objective clarity and while avoiding overly accentuated atmospheric effects, Gianni Baranello's technique is such that it naturally inserts objects into space, with a continuity and indefiniteness of contours.
Gianni Baranello, an Italian artist, contemporary figurative painter, and portraitist, was born in Monterotondo (Rome) in 1951. His works are included in numerous Italian and international art collections. For example, two figurative works using classical techniques are permanently exhibited at Saint Jude Church in Orlando, USA, and another sacred work of art is displayed at the Church of Gesù Operaio in Monterotondo.
