Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws inspiration from an Informal aesthetic. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the materials with which they compose their works.
While the final result of Gianni Borta's work can be described as Informal, we are faced with a painter closely tied to the sensory realm. Indeed, Borta's starting point in developing his paintings is Nature itself. The artist focuses on the study of flowers, focusing on details of the corolla and petals in his execution, with the intent of transferring their true essence to the canvas. Borta's approach somehow resembles the exponents of the "Last Naturalism" movement, who macroscopically enlarged plant elements, thus arriving at Informalism. This influence is elaborated by Gianni Borta along with his agitated gestures, which hark back to Abstract Expressionism. Indeed, the gestural brushstrokes and the pictorial material itself become the primary expressive medium in conveying the artist's sensitivity and perception of Nature to his work.
Gianni Borta was born in Udine in 1941. He is considered a leading figure in what is now known as naturalistic art, for his extraordinary and unique painting style. He has participated in major art exhibitions: the Biennials, the Trivenete, the National Quadrennial of Rome, Suzzara, the Arte Fiera of Bologna, Expo Levante in Bari, the Kunstemesse 1979 in Basel, the Art Fair Washington (USA), the 15th Graphic Arts Biennial in Ljubljana (SLO), "Kurnst aus Italien" (from Futurism to Transavanguardia) in Munich, the 1st Grand Prix Alpe Adria, the Tivoli Gallery in Ljubljana, the Frankfurt International Art Fair, the Padua Art Fair, Vicenza, Bologna, Parma, Bari, Genoa, Reggio Emilia, Florence, Brescia, Tuyap Istanbul, Art Fair Makkunsy Wien 96, the International Print Triennial Krakow Poland-Cracow, Europ'Art Genève-Geneva, Art-Cannes, Art Philadelphia, Arteexpo New York. He has held 175 solo exhibitions in major Italian cities and abroad. His works are found in museums, institutions, and public institutions.
