Description of the work
Description of the work
In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.
Gianni Bruni's work fits into an artistic movement aimed at transfiguring the world in a way that is simultaneously surreal and abstract. This movement finds significant inspiration in artists like Chagall and Paul Klee, whom Gianni Bruni seems to be inspired by. The Swiss artist seems to draw particular inspiration from the artist in his use of brilliant, luminous impastos of color. Compared to Klee, however, Bruni seeks an even more fairytale-like atmosphere in his dreamlike, lopsided architectures, generated by a refined calligraphic style.
Gianni Bruni, born in Taranto in 1935 and died in Rome in 1995, was an architect, urban planner, but above all, a cultured and refined painter. He is known for his exquisite compositions of Indian ink colored in soft shades of green, red, yellow, and ochre, which transport the viewer into a dreamlike and enchanted universe.
