Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the female figure is an expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the female figure has also been a central figure in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism. In Giampietro Tugnoli's work, in addition to a large number of landscapes, we also find several subjects inspired by female figures working in the fields, especially in rice paddies.
This painting is an exemplary work of Giampietro Tugnoli's interpretation of the female figure. The composition is primarily based on the drawing, which harmoniously and balancedly delineates the forms and, above all, enhances the plastic qualities. The subject's volumes are further emphasized through the use of structural color, which, by placing brushstrokes layer upon layer, explores the figure's formal qualities. The volumes, vibrant with this complex and dynamic pictorial style, are further enhanced by a clear, diffused light. The space, in contrast to the smoothness of the subject, suggests a more impressionistic rendering by the painter.
Giampietro Tugnoli was born in 1948 in Cellina di Leggiuno. He began his career as a professional painter in 1974. Since then, his career has been marked by numerous solo and group exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad. A primarily figurative painter, he favors the palette knife technique, which gives his subjects an almost sculptural consistency.
