Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.
The painter Gino Scarpa's style is based on an almost extreme pictorial synthesis. His subjects are reduced to pure color, their form determined by brushstrokes with a simplicity that coincides with great expressive force. In the composition, which is practically two-dimensional, the chromatic values clearly prevail, with a lively, immediate application of color, creating a strong visual impact. The atmosphere is consistent, always based, for this painter, on brown, yellow, or ochre tones.
Gino Scarpa was born in Venice in 1924. His entire life has been divided between his passion for the mountains and his passion for painting. He has exhibited his paintings at the biennials of Krakow, Ljubljana, Eidelsberg, and Fedriskstad. He has held numerous solo exhibitions in Italy, Norway, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, France, Latin America, the USA, and Singapore. He has participated in the Venice Biennale three times.
