Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In his landscapes, Gino Tassinari demonstrates a strong connection to the Vedutismo tradition. The work seems to reflect this tradition right from the composition, with a dramatic framing encompassing a vast expanse of landscape. But above all, the execution method is consistent with Vedutismo: the artist uses a rapid, cursive stroke, roughly delineating details and allowing them to recompose in the viewer's eye. Tassinari manages to blur forms into the atmosphere, constructing objects with a thin line that delineates their contours and then softens them, allowing light to permeate the entire scene.
Gino Tassinari was a painter born in 1920 and died in 2001. Based on his style—a rapid, cursive stroke—and his subject matter, a lyrical landscape, he can be defined as a continuation of the Vedutismo tradition. We are therefore faced with a painter with a solid academic background, which provided him with a remarkable technique that allowed him to achieve a perfect naturalistic and atmospheric rendering.
