Description of the work
Description of the work
Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s and encompassed all fields of artistic research. Specifically, in the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks propose the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality. However, this representation often relies on a hyperrealistic formal rendering, precisely to paradoxically accentuate the illusory and ambiguous nature of the surreal dimension.
Giò Ross's artistic language is based on surrealist influences expressed in a manner unique to this painter. His works are elaborate both iconographically and formally. His paintings are true dreamlike visions, supported by a pictorial style that perfectly captures this otherworldly dimension. All his works are based on a textured and iridescent color scheme that fills the entire surface of the painting. It is within this context that the subjects appear, synthesized with rapid, curved strokes. The conception of space is totally unreal, completely subverting the laws of physics. A general sense of lightness prevails, reminiscent of certain works by Chagall.
Giovanni Rossi, known by his stage name Giò Ross, is a painter born in Urbino in 1972. He trained in his hometown, first at the Art Institute and then in 1996, graduating from the DAMS (Department of Music, Music and Performing Arts) in Bologna. In 2003, he earned a teaching qualification in Art History. He has exhibited his work in over forty exhibitions, many of them solo.
