Gioacchino Schembri - Laceration

Gioacchino Schembri is an artist originally from the province of Agrigento. He has always been drawn to painting and began practicing it as a self-taught artist. Later, after moving to Rho for work, he attended an oil painting course and then an art school, which allowed him to gain a brief figurative apprenticeship, focusing on still lifes and landscapes. Gioacchino Schembri subsequently embarked on a passionate exploration that led him to transcend the physical world and embrace an informal style. Schembri's informal art certainly draws on the masters of the past, but is distinguished by its own originality, the fruit of this artist's profound sensitivity. Schembri's experimentation primarily involves the composition of his works, which, in many cases, is resolved in a harmonious balance of colors. The painted surfaces are divided into intense chromatic zones by sharp or sinuous lines, depending on the different influences. In this way, the artist establishes a system of references and correspondences between colors, dictated by the transfiguration of reality into color and pictorial gesture. Occasionally, a geometric shape appears as a counterpoint, but the intensity and expressiveness are predominantly resolved in the pictorial gesture, which is complex and dynamic. The pictorial layering is lively, vibrant with existentialism. We can appreciate this most in those paintings where Gioacchino Schembri definitively breaks away from the compositional grid and the execution reveals itself as pure pictorialism, a direct reflection of the artist's feelings. The gesture then becomes more vehement, swirling, and agitated, in tune with the register of a powerful abstract expressionism.
