Description of the work
Description of the work
Giorgio Carluccio was born in Tuturano, Brindisi, on October 20, 1948. He studied at the Art School in Lecce from 1964 to 1968 and earned a diploma in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce in 1973.
In the early 1970s, he worked within the avant-garde, drawn to Expressionism, Informalism, and the spatial concepts of Lucio Fontana. In the 1980s, as a teacher, he devoted himself to experimenting with plastic arts at art institutes and high schools.
He resumed his sculpting career in 1992. From 1995 onwards, with his double-sided works in bronze and synthetic stone, he developed the idea of a new approach to sculpture. Beginning in 2001, with the use of multiple materials in the same work, the idea of transcending the unity of the artistic object's formal and expressive elements took shape: breaking down the style and homogeneous formal model in the sculptural work. The compositional structure, the architecture of the work, is achieved from a basic body and subsequent additional applications: parts conceived as independent, held together by a conceptual interrelation. The elements of the language interact in a deliberately metaphysical space—the work conveys a visual perception of aesthetic-formal discontinuity.
Giorgio Carluccio has deliberately never abandoned the "sculpture-object" concept, whether installations or other genres, convinced that new forms of sculpture can be found in languages open to new solutions, not subject to closures or old formalisms, towards a constructive, non-prejudicial liberalism, inspired by the overcoming of gratuitous provocations, of improvisations devoid of content, as has happened in recent years.
