Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

In this work, Giorgio Ciacci demonstrates his post-Impressionist maturity. The composition is entirely constructed through color, and the brushstrokes have a notable structural value. The painter's aim is not to capture the tangible details of the landscape, but to capture its very essence, its substance. To this end, the brushstrokes, rich in texture, intervene, which, despite the simplicity of the representation, breaks down the space into different planes, recording the vibrations of light and life on the subject. Thus, within a substantially two-dimensional surface, compressed in the foreground, the objects are constructed by the painter with broad, dense brushstrokes of color, and the houses are structured according to geometric principles inspired by Cézanne. Chromatically, the entire surface of the work is coordinated with a balanced palette of references and correspondences.
Giorgio Ciacci was born in San Costanzo di Pesaro in 1921, but moved to Senigallia as a child. In 1950, he graduated in etching from the Istituto del Libro in Urbino and held his first exhibition that same year. From then on, he exhibited extensively, not only in Italy but also abroad. Many of his works are held in public and private collections in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Finland, Switzerland, the former Yugoslavia, and the United States.
