Giorgio Tonelli - Untitled (Roofs)

Giorgio Tonelli's work depicts a city view seen from a high perspective, almost as if looking out from a window on an upper floor. The image shows only the upper parts of the buildings: roofs, geometric volumes, and some cylindrical elements reminiscent of industrial structures.

The composition is clearly and structured. The lines are clean, the volumes simplified and arranged in an orderly fashion, with a controlled use of strokes. The absence of color, replaced by black and white with subtle tonal modulations, underscores the intention of reducing the image to its essential elements.

Giorgio Tonelli (Brescia, 1941) began painting in 1974 in the studio of Gianfranco Ferroni, whom he considered an "ethical master." Between 1983 and 1985, he lived between Paris, New York, and Venice; in 1987, he settled in Bologna. His work emphasizes stable images, clean forms, and a thoughtful palette, with themes linked as much to the metropolis as to the great plains and seascapes.
