The landscape has always been a protagonist in artistic research, both as
setting, as a background, but also as the subject itself.
naturalistic description of the landscape was one of the major aspirations
for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own
interpretation of the landscape contributing to the evolution of its
description: first with a research on space, through perspective
Brunelleschi's in the early Renaissance; then on the atmospheric rendering in the
Sixteenth century; up to the representation of every single vibration
of light on objects in Impressionism.

The work is a clear example of expressionist landscape. Reality is
interpreted in an extremely synthetic way, with an exercise in reduction
which seeks to reach the purest essence of the landscape. The surface is
completely two-dimensional, with almost no depth
spatial. The brushstrokes outline the shapes in a very instinctive way.
Going into even more detail we can see how the artist
describe the view with a series of gestures, creating a mixture
changing that transfigures, in the pictorial material, his perception of the city.
Thus the application of colour is dense and, although the language used in this
works both synthetic and expressionist, the artist's vision remains tied to the
phenomenal reality, to its vibrations of light and atmosphere, in a doing
pictorial that takes the premises set by art to their extreme consequences
impressionist and en plein air.

Giorgio Vignolo was born in Genoa and attended the Maragliano Art Institute.
with Prof. E. Massiglio; during his short stay in South America (Chile) he was
student of the master prof. J. Fossa Calderon, who knew, in these his first
pictorial experiences, create the conditions for his artistic evolution.
