Description of the work
Description of the work
The volume GIOTTO published by UTET Grandi Opere is intended as a celebratory work for the 750th anniversary of the great artist, a true summa both in terms of the scientific innovations contained in the texts and in terms of the extremely high-quality images.
The Scientific Committee, composed of leading Giotto scholars, has written six essays exclusively for this edition that explore Giotto, his life, his works, the innovative characteristics of his art, and the spread of the new Giotto language. They combine historical and scientific expertise with a clear and engaging narrative, creating an up-to-date and definitive work of the highest value for scholars and of great interest to enthusiasts.
The authors, coordinated by Professor Alessandro Tomei, embark on a new and comprehensive exploration of Giotto, beginning, with Tomei himself, with an analysis of the legend and myth of Giotto, comparing it with the artist's true story. This is followed by an essay by Professor Serena Romano, who explores the artist's extraordinary narrative talent through his depiction of reality and emotion, a talent that still amazes and fascinates us today.
Giotto's three-dimensional innovations and the emergence of an enveloping and significant pictorial space, far removed from the flat Byzantine backdrops, are the subject of an essay by Professor Francesco Benelli, followed by a paper on the Scrovegni Chapel by Professor Giuliano Pisani, another essay that offers new and previously unseen interpretations of one of the fundamental masterpieces of art history.
The volume concludes and completes the overview of the great artist with an essay on Giotto and the portrait of his patrons by Professor Stefania Paone and a study on Giotto and the arts of his time by Professor Gaetano Curzi, which delves into the artist's eclecticism, not only as a painter, but also as an architect and, according to the latest studies, a sculptor.
The vast majority of the images in the volume and all those representing the most important cycles and masterpieces are the result of extremely high definition shots with ad hoc photographic campaigns, a fundamental prerequisite for being able to create images, visions, enlargements and details that give the reader the unique and unparalleled experience of truly being face to face with the original.
This is therefore a never-before-published work, unsurpassed and unsurpassed, dedicated to the master of masters in his entirety, produced in a limited edition. The work is housed in an elegant slipcase and bears the copy number and the handwritten signature of the President of UTET Grandi Opere in the colophon.
