Giovanna Orilia - Parisian Dream

The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.

Cityscapes and urban architecture are Giovanna Orilia's favorite subjects, often inserted into compositions so rational as to appear unreal. In this case, as in many of Giovanna Orilia's other works, the subject is placed at the center of a perfect perspective whose convergence regulates the entire surrounding space in an almost surreal manner. Giovanna Orilia's style is deliberately paradoxical and illusory in its exaltation of the architectural element. Consistently, even formally, her painting style is distinctly objective, devoid of pictorialism.

Giovanna Orilia is a painter from Salerno. Her artistic output has received widespread acclaim and attracted the interest of many prominent critics, including Vittorio Sgarbi. In 2015, she held her first solo exhibition. In 2017, her retrospective exhibition "Noi" opened. That same year, she founded an association through which she teaches children to paint and draw.
