Description of the work
Description of the work
The painter Giulio Di Marino, through a simple and humble representation, describes a still life, or "still life," that is, the representation, in this case pictorial, of inanimate objects that find their correspondence in the exploration of concepts and symbols. Within the historical context of art, this pictorial genre enjoyed great importance and success during the 17th century, due to its richly detailed depiction that made it seem real and natural. Making a leap into twentieth-century painting, the still life as a genre was rediscovered by important artists who reinterpreted it with the aim of expressing their emotions and delving into the different planes of reality. Thus, the still life becomes a mirror of emotional exploration and a meditation on the relationships between form and color. Giulio Di Marino's personal style engages our being in its various facets, beginning with a dense painting style. The representation, overall simple and effective, through rapid and directional panel strokes, expresses the desire to go beyond pictorial reality to achieve a style that rediscovers the proportions and forms of reality, meditating on color as a fundamental element. The drawing is rapid, as is the painting, and the chiaroscuro element, with pastel shadows, delineates the shapes of the objects. Born in Teramo in 1930, Giulio Di Marino was an art history professor. A student of the artist Tommaso Cascella, his artistic talent developed at an early age. Throughout his long career, he is remembered as a lover of art, gentle and generous in his artistic endeavors. He passed away in 2019 at the age of 89.
