Giuseppe Gallá - Landscape

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

He maintains a connection with the description of sensory data, of what he sees and perceives through his senses, but everything is transfigured according to a rigorous compositional logic. Indeed, the artist reconstructs the sensory world not according to a naturalistic principle of imitation, but according to a hyperrealist spirit. Everything, therefore, appears static, in a sort of magical, metaphysical immobility. Consistently, even the representation of objects follows a generally hyperrealistic line that avoids any pictorial effect. Thanks to an excellent execution technique, the objects are depicted with a precise, photographic manner. The strong plasticity is in no way disrupted by the application of color, and the artist avoids any atmospheric effect, remaining consistent in his aesthetic choices.

Giuseppe Gallà was born on April 26, 1935, in Cefalù, in the province of Palermo. He attended the Art Institute of Palermo, where his true inspiration for art and painting took shape. Particularly passionate about the works of Van Gogh and Caravaggio, Giuseppe Gallà found his own expressive path between tradition and modernity, in which the depiction of everyday life is crystallized in a magical hyperrealism.
