Giuseppe Giorgi - Garden in the City

Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. In Giuseppe Giorgi's works, the subject is always a landscape where flowers and their colors are the protagonists. This type of floral view allows the artist to unleash his full chromatic flair in a composition in which an Impressionist stylistic register is taken to its extreme.

In both his paintings and his engravings, we can see the extraordinary technical prowess of Giuseppe Giorgi's artistic process. In his works, the entire structure is determined by an intricate hatching technique that gives form to objects, creates volumes, and measures space. The result is a composition that, in addition to demonstrating great draftsmanship, captures the vibrations of light on objects and their interaction with the atmosphere. However, the defining characteristic of Giuseppe Giorgi's work, whether painting or engraving, is the leading role played by color. Indeed, the painter's research has always focused on developing a precious, brilliant, and luminous polychromy.

Giuseppe Giorgi (Borbona, 1950). In 1974, the Galleria la Barcaccia in Rome held a solo exhibition of his work, and he participated in the 1975 National Art Quadrennial. In the late 1970s, he traveled extensively to Northern Europe, where he was influenced by the great Impressionists. In the 1980s, he exhibited extensively: solo shows in galleries in Catania, Bolzano, Siena, Merano, and Florence; an exhibition traveled from Düsseldorf to Basel; various editions of the Expo Arte in Bari; and participation in international fairs such as the New York Expo. With the exhibition held at Mitsukoschi in Tokyo (1989), he began an intense relationship with Japan through the Galerie Sanbi, which presented several solo exhibitions and included him in various group shows. The same year he received the Fatati Prize from the City of Arrone and in 1990 the Galleria dei Greci, in collaboration with the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno, organized a solo exhibition of his work in the ancient Sala dei Mercatori of the Town Hall.
