Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the female figure is an expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the female figure has also been a central figure in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
Research into the female figure served as a tool for artist Giuseppe Giorgi to develop his style, a blend of expressionism and post-impressionism. Indeed, the figure is delineated in a rather synthetic manner, and the artist places emphasis on the rhythm of the composition rather than a naturalistic rendering. Thus, the female body and the space surrounding it become a continuous, dynamic, and iridescent blend of colors. Formally, Giorgi indulges in an elaborate, impressionistic style. His brushstrokes seek to capture all the vibrations of light and atmosphere. All this makes the chromatic texture of Giuseppe Giorgi's works extremely complex, giving his compositions a specific existential character.
Giuseppe Giorgi was born in 1950 in Borbona. His first solo exhibitions were held in 1971 at the Circolo Giornalisti and Studio 45, followed by one at the Signorelli Gallery/Bookshop in 1973. He participated in the 1975 National Art Quadrennial, included in the "New Figuration" section. A pivotal study trip to Paris in 1979, where he admired the works of the great Impressionist masters, proved instrumental. In the 1980s, he exhibited extensively: solo shows in galleries in Catania, Bolzano, Siena, Merano, and Florence; an exhibition that traveled from Düsseldorf to Basel; and various editions of the Expo Arte in Bari.
