Description of the work
Description of the work
The subject falls within the genre scene category, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
Giuseppe Giorgi's work develops into a style somewhere between Expressionism and Post-Impressionism. The scene is depicted in a rather synthetic manner, and the artist places emphasis on the rhythm of the composition rather than on a naturalistic rendering. Thus, the embrace between the two subjects and the surrounding space becomes a continuous, dynamic, and iridescent blend of colors. Formally, Giorgi indulges in an elaborate, impressionistic style, in this case very diluted. His brushstrokes seek to capture all the vibrations of light and atmosphere. All this makes the chromatic texture of Giuseppe Giorgi's works extremely complex, giving his compositions a specific existential character.
Giuseppe Giorgi was born in 1950 in Borbona. His first solo exhibitions were held in 1971 at the Circolo Giornalisti and Studio 45, followed by one at the Signorelli Gallery/Bookshop in 1973. He participated in the 1975 National Art Quadrennial, included in the "New Figuration" section. A pivotal study trip to Paris in 1979, where he admired the works of the great Impressionist masters, proved instrumental. In the 1980s, he exhibited extensively: solo shows in galleries in Catania, Bolzano, Siena, Merano, and Florence; an exhibition that traveled from Düsseldorf to Basel; and various editions of the Expo Arte in Bari.
