Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Giuseppe Malagodi often traveled to the Abruzzo and Lazio countryside in search of picturesque views and glimpses to immortalize in his paintings. Malagodi was a painter deeply connected to this humble, rural reality, which always plays a central role in his work. Formally, this closeness to the land is expressed through an emotional style of painting, in which the formal synthesis of reality conveys intimate and spiritual messages. This is achieved by leveraging the expressive qualities of color, which is laid out in broad, layered layers, layer by layer, on the surface of the support. The impression is truly one of a textured application, the finest expression of a rural world, such as that depicted by Giuseppe Malagodi.
Giuseppe Malagodi was born in Cento in 1890 and died in Rome in 1968. He trained in the capital at the Ripetta Academy, graduating in 1910 and qualifying as a teacher. After the First World War, he worked for the Società Generale Immobiliare as a draftsman, maintaining his studio on Via Margutta. He participated in important events such as various editions of the Rome Quadrennial Exhibitions.
