Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this work, artist Giuseppe Piovanelli creates a landscape that can be described as fully expressionist. Phenomenal reality undergoes a remarkable formal synthesis, and the landscape is represented as a collection of chromatic zones. The composition is constructed from a design of very clear, diagonal lines, which establish a dynamic rhythm. But above all, it is the choice of color that determines the expressionism of this painting. The glossy, metallic hues do not reflect natural truth, but rather communicate an emotional state, a spiritual state.
Giuseppe Piovanelli was born in 1945 in Darfo. His first major painting award came in 1969, at the Modena National Competition. This was followed by a succession of accolades and prizes, received for excellent reasons, at exhibitions held at the Iseo, Costa Volpino, and Bienno competitions, the Vaiano Cremasco National Prize, the Fabriano Art Exhibition, Rocca di Neto, and Diano Marina. He has been cited in major national art magazines such as Italia Artistica, Le Firme, and Arte bresciana del XX secolo. Experts in the field have written about his painting and published his work in national media and art catalogs, including Spiazzi, Sardini, Falcetta, Valzelli, M. Bernardelli Curuz, Sacchini, A.M. Pero, F.S. Russo, Gatta, Fontana, Fanchini, Botticchio, and Ranzanici. He is included in: Encyclopedia of Contemporary Artists, Contemporary Art Collection, Painting, Sculpture, and Graphics in Italy, Encyclopedic Dictionary of Contemporary Art, The Trace of Art, The Colors of the Valley, "Mosca 2010/2011" magazine, and in the volume "The Best Artists Modern and Contemporary 2015" presented in Edinburgh. His works have been exhibited in national and international exhibitions: Expo Brescia, Expo Centro d'Arte Farinella (FE), Rocca dei Boiardo-Scandiano (RE), Biennale Mediterranea-Catanzaro, a solo exhibition at the "Centro Culturale S. Agostino - Museo di Crema 1989", Artexpo - Italian Pavilion in New York 1994, and recently in April 2015 at the Quirinale "Teatro Dioscuri" in Rome.
He lives and has his studio in Gratacasolo.
