Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting depicts a woman with her back turned, intent on undressing in a highly sensual gesture, revealing even the most intimate parts of her body, such as her hips. The gesture of the act, the semi-naked body, is undoubtedly highly attractive. Semi-nudity became a recurring theme in the 1970s, tied to the cultural and social changes of the time. It was precisely at that time that the human body began to be explored through new languages and techniques, with a freedom of expression and a sensuality never before seen.
The color reflects the body's warmth. His brushstrokes are rapid because the artist favors emotional brushwork. The figures are often captured in everyday life.
Giuseppe Uzzaco was a painter born in Palermo in 1932 and died in 2020. Much of his artistic output revolves around themes dear to him, the world of Sicilian farmers and fishermen. He uses bright colors to convey the warmth of his homeland. In 1974, the city of Palermo dedicated an exhibition to him at Palazzo Butera. This was a turning point in the painter's artistic career, and from there, his work was exhibited in several Italian and European cities, increasing his notoriety. He is also famous for his murals in various Sicilian towns and islands, with the aim of making art accessible to local communities.
