Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this night view, Giusy D'Arrigo displays her full creative verve. While the subject remains connected to phenomenal reality, through a comprehensible structure based on traditional landscapes, the interpretative modality, however, transcends the five senses. Thus, the entire composition becomes a feast of colors distributed across the canvas with a gestural approach. Consequently, the moon's reflections in the sky and sea, and the flank of the volcano traversed by the lava flow, converge in an almost abstract expressionist composition, transcending nature and revealing the image's essential emotional and spiritual component.
Giusy D'Arrigo is an artist originally from Paris, where she was born in 1970. She later moved to Sicily for a time, but currently lives and works in Rome. Her training began in France, and she has been featured in numerous exhibitions and shows in Parisian ateliers and boulevards. The traveling exhibition Metamorfosi, dedicated to her late brother Angelo, a multiple free-flying champion, was a great success, and toured cities such as Buenos Aires, New York, Los Angeles, Milan, and Rome. Her solo exhibition in New York's Soho, titled Spiral Life, was a significant success. Her works are included in numerous private collections.
