Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The painter Goffredo Dezi's research is primarily focused on material. Formally, he applies an almost brutal synthesis to phenomenal reality. The landscape is reduced to a bare minimum on a two-dimensional surface. What is lost in figuration is, however, recovered in expressiveness thanks to the highly elaborate application of the paint. The paint is so dense that the artist digs and incised his marks, essentially creating a work in relief characterized by remarkable gestural power.
Goffredo Dezi is an artist who has developed his own essentially expressionist aesthetic based above all on the pictorial gesture that engraves a dense material.
