Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
Claudia Gomarasca's pictorial language relies primarily on the expressive qualities of color. The drawing structure and perspective grid are completely dismantled to make way for the power of the brushstrokes. Indeed, the vigor with which Gomarasca creates her works is such that it borders on the gestural expressiveness typical of Abstract Expressionism. However, Claudia Gomarasca holds firmly to phenomenal reality, because even with her colorful, highly textured brushstrokes, she manages to delineate the essence of the vase of flowers, imbuing it with expressive vigor. In this Expressionist context, color also acquires a material value, becoming a coherent impasto. The meaning of color, in fact, goes far beyond naturalism and takes on a highly symbolic, evocative, and spiritual significance.
Claudia Gomarasca was born in Milan in 1969. She graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Milan Polytechnic, where she deepened her knowledge of art history under Professor Flavio Caroli. In 1999, she attended the school of the Gruppo Artistico Cassanese under the guidance of Carlo Monzani, beginning with drawing and progressing to mastery of oil painting techniques through the study of old masters and the reproduction of 17th-century paintings, particularly those of Caravaggio. She has lived in Rome since 2003. There, she attended the Rosamaria Rizzo art school (Italian Neo-Mannerism), where she explored the themes of ancient oil painting, particularly the glazing technique. At Villa Borghese, she attended an in-depth course on Caravaggio, focusing on his still lifes. In 2012, she joined the Laura Grosso Painting Studio. His reproductions of famous painters are held in private collections in Milan, Viareggio, Cortina d'Ampezzo, and Rome. He has exhibited in the foyer of the Formello Theater, at the Studio 9 gallery, and at the Defrag Cultural Center in Rome.
