In the history of art, a clear distinction can often be made between figurative and abstract stylistic movements. However, when an artist's goal is to represent an object that resonates with phenomenal reality but is also charged with hidden and symbolic meaning, this boundary can become blurred. Symbolism and Expressionism are emblematic stylistic movements in their conceptual interpretation of reality, with an iconic rendering of images and a symbolic interpretation in the use of color.

Compared to painter Grazia Lodeserto's more typical production, this work presents a very different interpretation. There's a clear desire to represent reality suspended between abstraction and figuration. The artist leaves reference points for the viewer, but in a completely decontextualized space. Even those same subjects are rendered in a spare manner, with an elegant graphic style. In short, we find a minimalist expressive form.

Grazia Lodeserto was born in Taranto in 1944. She has always had a penchant for creating works inspired by literature, such as cycles dedicated to the Bible or Dante's works. In the mid-1960s, she devoted herself to poetry, but from 1967 onwards she returned to painting exclusively. She has been featured in over 150 exhibitions in Italy and abroad (France, Germany, Ireland, Austria, the USA, and England).
