Description of the work
Description of the work
Beginning in the 1950s and 1960s, the so-called poetics of the object began to spread in European and American art. Harking back to the readymades of Dadaist memory, a new wave of groups or movements emerged that repurposed everyday objects as works of art. The departure from traditional Dada lay in the strong influence of Abstract Expressionism, which led to the reconfiguration of objects with new languages and new stimuli. In Italy, the poetics of the object were particularly embraced by the Arte Povera movement.
This work is typical of Guido Boletti's oeuvre, which is grounded in a multifaceted and colorful abstraction that sometimes, as in this case, also leaves a figurative trace. Indeed, the strongly expressionist freedom of gesture and color is recomposed into a thoughtful figuration. In this piece, the circular shape provides an additional dynamic impulse: the forms seem to rotate around the center of the work in a whirlwind of color.
Guido Boletti is an artist born in Milan in 1961 whose career has been divided between Italy and Brazil. His paintings draw on the neo-expressionist avant-garde of the 1980s. Boletti began his career as a musician, and his pictorial language also features constant references to harmony and musical sequences.
