Description of the work
Description of the work
The depiction of animals in art has ancient origins, even appearing in primitive cave paintings. For religious reasons, various types of animals appear in the works of various ancient civilizations. It was especially in the Middle Ages, within the International Gothic style, that animal depictions became widespread as true life portraits, both within works of art and in notebooks of drawings and sketches. The presence of animals as subjects in art remained constant until the contemporary era. In this sculpture, the artist Helidon Xhixha focuses his research on the figure of the horse. A noble animal, a symbol of beauty and harmony, the horse has repeatedly been a prominent subject in the history of art. Since the fourteenth century, its presence has always been obligatory in battle scenes or equestrian monuments, and for artists, representing it with anatomical precision and naturalistic rendering has always been a challenge.
The work is a reproduction of the statue created by Xhixha for the Ferrari factory in Maranello. In this case, Xhixha uses a figurative language compared to the informal sculptures with mirrored surfaces typical of his production. The representation is executed very faithfully to the subject, with great attention to detail and high-quality sculptural practice. The horse's surface is broken down in a creative process that complexifies the figure, imbuing it with energetic and existential vibrations. This decomposition, combined with the reflective qualities of Xhixha's material, gives the subject great expressive dynamism.
Helidon Xhixha is an Albanian artist born in Durrës in 1970. He spent his childhood in his father Sali's art studio, where he learned about fine art and developed a particular passion for sculpture. In 1998, Xhixha received a scholarship from Kingston University in London, where he dedicated himself to perfecting his technical skills in engraving, sculpture, and photography. The following year, he graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. The artist actively experiments with different materials and innovative techniques to create works of art in Murano glass and stainless steel sculptures. His works are increasingly acclaimed in the international art world, attracting enthusiasts and collectors from Italy, Germany, France, England, Switzerland, Austria, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.
