Description of the work
Description of the work
We're looking at a still life. Still lifes are used by artists to experiment with new pictorial and perspective solutions. In this case, we're looking at a table covered with a white tablecloth, on which various objects are arranged in a haphazard fashion. There's not only the usual fruit, but also crockery. The whole thing doesn't seem like a scene specifically designed to be immortalized on canvas. Rather, it seems like a close-up of everyday life, with forgotten objects. like the half-crumpled paper package and the letter sticking out of the table.
The painting's style is essential and simple, meaning it doesn't seek the naturalism of the object, but rather conveys it with concreteness. The table, the stage for displaying the objects, is shown upside down to better appreciate the items on display. White predominates in the painting, complemented by rich, warm colors.
Claudio Heredia was born in 1954 in Buenos Aires. He began his career as a muralist, graphic artist, and painter in Argentina. He later moved to Italy, but remained faithful to his country's art, expressing it in small-scale works, using gouaches, ink, pen, pencil, pastel, tempera, acrylic, and oil. His subjects range from moments of everyday life to figures, landscapes, animals, and objects. The artist has held solo and group exhibitions throughout Italy. Thanks to his fame, in 1992 he was also commissioned to create large murals, " La Pachamama, 500 Years of Resistance ," a collaboration with Gianni Berra, executed in Rimini, and " La Carrozza " in Florence.
Throughout his life, the artist continued to combine large-scale and small-scale works, ranging from murals to book illustrations. He also dabbled in sculpture, creating sculptural evocations of figures on modeled fabric. Art critic and journalist Alberto Gavazzeni described him as follows: "...he always fears falling into the trap of pictorial rhetoric; instead of defining them, he prefers to imbue his subjects with a sense of generality, as if they were archetypes from which we must begin to understand the joys, passions, and sorrows of the world, as if they were raw material to be shaped and reshaped in pursuit of an unattainable perfection." The artist passed away in 2015 at just 61 years old.
