Hortus Eystettensis

Aboca Edizioni presents the complete reproduction in limited edition of the Hortus Eystettensis by Basilius Besler , based on the magnificent copy preserved in the University Library of Eichstätt. The treatise contains illustrations of over a thousand plants, arranged according to their natural flowering calendar , and marks the definitive transition from the xylographic to the intaglio technique.

The Hortus Eystettensis was printed on specially manufactured paper, similar in weight, texture, color, and laid finish to that of the seventeenth-century edition . The printing process reproduced the pressure of an intaglio plate, and advanced chromolithographic techniques were used to color the plates. Finally, the binding was done by hand, with antique-style stitching, colored edges, creasing, ridges, and spine labeling.
