Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as an independent subject began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world, as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also became a way of interpreting reality.
This painting also highlights the extraordinary technical prowess of Antonio Ialenti's painting. In this work, the entire structure is determined by an extremely complex hatching technique that gives form to objects, creates volumes, and measures space. The result is a composition that, in addition to demonstrating great drawing skill, captures the vibrations of light on objects and their interaction with the atmosphere. However, the defining characteristic of Antonio Ialente's works, whether paintings or engravings, is the central role played by color. Indeed, the painter's research, largely inspired by Michele Cascella of Ortona, has always focused on developing a precious, brilliant, and luminous polychromy.
Antonio Ialenti was born in Campobasso in 1937 and passed away in Varzi in 2018. His paintings consist mostly of landscapes and floral compositions. Much of his work draws inspiration from Michele Cascella's research, adopting a dense, layered canvas and vibrant, light-filled polychromes.
