Description of the work
Description of the work
Franz Borghese, Italian painter, sculptor and engraver , was born in Rome on 21 January 1941 and completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Art High School in Rome. In his paintings, Borghese analyses society and the crowds surrounding him , portraying them with a brush dipped in sarcasm and irony, as well as in the chromaticism of his palette. Franz Borghese's techniques embrace the entire traditional mode of pictorial expression, with the addition of personal innovations and openings to sculpture and engraving. Borghese always worked a great deal, using oil paints, tempera, ink, watercolours and mixed media , so much so that death overtook him in his studio in Rome, while he was painting, on 16 December 2005. Already famous towards the end of the 1960s, in 1971 he surprised the world of critics with a series of paintings on the theme “The Trial of the Bourgeoisie” which automatically triggers parallels with George Grosz and Otto Dix. Honored as one of the most prominent figures in the Italian art scene, Borghese has been, and continues to be, the subject of numerous exhibitions at renowned public institutions, both in Italy and abroad. His works are held in important private collections, foundations, and institutions. Borghese's works have been sold at important auctions and, thanks also to the work of the Franz Borghese archive , the artist's prices are still stable, as is the interest he receives from the public and critics.
