The genuine naturally tanned calfskin used in the binding and the goatskin endpapers tanned with rock alum are high-quality materials, crafted according to the methods of the finest Italian tanning tradition. Any stains, roughness, and porosity should therefore not be considered defects, but rather qualities that guarantee a binding made of genuine leather. The gold pages, covered by an exclusive patent of Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, are made of 999.9 (24-karat) gold and each weighs 1 gram. Pure 916 (22-karat) gold leaf was used for the cover decorations. The paper is a special type, made of pure cotton cellulose, with the Libro D'Oro trademark imprinted in watermark, and was made entirely by hand using the ancient loom technique by Cartiere Miliani in Fabriano. The work has the following characteristics: – 20 24-karat gold pages. – Each page weighs 1 g. – The plaque with the dedication “Ad Personam” is made of 18 kt gold and weighs 3 g. – – 22 kt pure gold leaf was used for the cover decorations. This work was purchased at the end of 1999 by Editalia – Gruppo Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, which certifies its authenticity.
