Giusti's works are not just simple still lifes but contain a strong symbolism within them.
The wall, in the background, is born from childhood memories of old dry stone walls, the stump with rusty hand-made nails, placed there by who knows who, the pomegranate symbol of life and abundance, placed as a trophy and redemption from the poverty from which the masses came (their land).
The use of color and the contrast between deep shadows and light hark back to the Flemish works he saw on his travels in Northern Europe.
