Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
Inigio Pagliani is one of those painters who truly achieves, in their artistic output, a perfect balance between mimesis and lyricism. Indeed, at the heart of his essentially figurative language lies, undoubtedly, a flawless naturalistic rendering of flowers. Pagliani stands out for his flawless reproduction of each individual petal, even with a certain plastic consistency and a consequent determination of space within the painting. At the same time, however, the expressive power of his style lies essentially in his pictorial application. Pagliani's brushstrokes are lively, impressionistic in inspiration, ready to capture every single vibration of light and atmosphere on the flowers and the vase. Furthermore, his brushstrokes are dense with color, and his palette is always determined by a coherent tonal unity.
Inigio Pagliani (1911 Carpi - 1991 Modena), a self-taught painter, never attended academies or studied painting. He was exposed to the best artists in Modena, including Angelo Salvarani, Gaetano Bellei, and Tino Pelloni. He stayed briefly in Genoa, then settled in Milan, working very successfully with the Neapolitan artist Balsamo. He returned to Carpi in 1961 and from then on achieved success, triumphs, and awards. He has exhibited in Italy, including Paris, London, Barcelona, Casablanca, New York, Munich, Brussels, Istanbul, Lisbon, Bonn, and more.
