Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting depicts a camp scene Immersed in a twilight-tinged forest. With the arrival of darkness and night, the main figures try to warm themselves around the fire that gives the work its title. All around are covered wagons, which perhaps also serve as shelter during the night, and horses, peacefully grazing after the effort of pulling the wagons.
Pagliani makes fire the center of the composition, allowing it to emanate a warm, soft light that envelops the scene's protagonists, creating an evocative atmosphere. His confident, textured application of color is evident, defining shapes without resorting to sharp outlines, a characteristic of his talented, self-taught training.
Inigio Pagliani (1911-1991) was a self-taught painter from Carpi, celebrated for his "pure" and crystalline art. A master of color and technique (oil, watercolor, and tempera), he brought to life running horses, delicate flowers, and nostalgic glimpses of ancient Carpi. After working in Milan and collaborating with leading artists, he achieved widespread international success from 1961, exhibiting in major world capitals, from New York to Paris.
