Description of the work
The work reproduces Gino Giannetti's most famous sculpture, the Columbus Monument, known as Columbus' Sail. The sculpture was commissioned by the Autonomous Consortium of the Port of Genoa and completed in 1990. It is on display in the gardens of Genoa Airport.
This reproduction draws on a classical and traditional conception of artistic creation. As we can see, the artist pursues a completely naturalistic rendering, achieved through remarkable technique. The artist has succeeded in emphasizing the subjects' volumes, creating a balanced relationship within the work and within a limited space. The facial features are highly precise, with a certain idealization.
