Description of the work
Description of the work
The beauty of Italy is captured in one hundred and forty original images, once again created exclusively for FMR by maestro Pino Musi, who immortalized the evocative architecture of the first places dedicated to Christian worship: from the Basilica of Aquileia to Sant'Ambrogio in Milan; from San Vitale, Galla Placidia, and Sant'Apollinare in Classe in Ravenna to the Basilica of Santo Stefano in Bologna; from Santa Maria and Santa Fosca in Torcello to the Cathedral of Trani; from Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome to the Palatine Chapel in Palermo and the Cathedral of Monreale.
The original work, Italy: Beauty and Faith, is a bilingual edition, in Italian and with a facing English translation, and was conceived and produced by FMR publishing house, in keeping with the excellence of Italian craftsmanship.
The volume, composed of 416 pages in the closed format of 31x43x6 cm, is based on an original corpus of authorial images created exclusively for FMR by the maestro Pino Musi in places of faith.
The iconographic section consists of 180 original photographs relating to the architecture of the first places dedicated to Christian worship: the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta in Aquileia, Santa Maria Assunta and Santa Fosca in Torcello (Ve), the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio in Milan, the Basilica of San Vitale, Galla Placidia and Sant'Apollinare in Ravenna, Santo Stefano in Bologna, Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome, the Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino in Trani, the Cathedral of Monreale and the Palatine Chapel in Palermo.
The textual section, also printed on the same special paper, contains, in addition to the publisher's introduction, an extensive introductory essay by the Scientific Director of the Series, Louis Godart, Advisor for the Conservation of the Artistic Heritage of the President of the Italian Republic, who also curated the presentation notes on the places that open the individual chapters.
The stitching, the binding with gold inscriptions on the spine, the gold stampings on the cover and the covering of the volume in fine barrel-dyed blue leather, made especially for this edition, were carried out at the bookbindery l'Arte del Libro in Todi.
